The Zombie Festival

26 June, 2007 (08:47) | InertNet, Research | By: Loris Z.

I just saw this on Rachel Young’s LJ. I’m no big zombie fan, but THIS is really interesting:

Zombie Festival 2007 is an internationally co-ordinated film and site-based events which incorporates elements of both old and new media. It will take place over the preceding 3 months and focus primarily on locally organised workshops and events leading up to a full-scale film production, also incorporating internet-coordinated film project.

Momus Reviews Pan’s Labyrinth

19 June, 2007 (15:45) | InertNet | By: Loris Z.

Over at his LJ, Momus writes what may be the best Pan’s Labirynth review that I’ve read. A little excerpt:

The film bore all the hallmarks of COG screenwriting. COG screenwriting is the opposite of personal vision, the opposite of imagination. It’s screenwriting as taught by “experts” in screenwriting class, a kind of brutal, plot-advancing writing style based around a Centre of Goodness (COG) who wins the audience’s sympathy (usually by pure genetic superiority — ie a very good-looking actor is cast — but also by a series of sufferings overcome throughout the narrative). It takes no prisoners — and no risks. COG screenwriting is the filmic equivalent of modern managerial techniques. It’s brutally efficient — yes, it can and will make you laugh and make you cry — but the difference between a film made by a COG director like Guillermo del Toro and an artist like Jodorowsky or Arrabal is like the difference between a house designed by a Project Manager and one designed by an architect. I will not let del Toro pass for an artist. I’m sorry, critics. He is a cinematic Project Manager

The more time it passes, the less I like the movie. Go read it, it’s worth it.

Oh my god.

31 May, 2007 (16:07) | InertNet | By: Loris Z.

I remember seeing them on William Gibson’s blog:

But now I’ve found the place where they’re sold.

Hieronymus Bosch action figures. I find them plainly wrong on more than one level. But on the other, I just can’t stop thinking that I’d love to have a full set (or two) of them.

(Thanks, Table of Malcontents)

Time For FIST-A-CUFFS RUMBLE ROYALE!!

21 May, 2007 (21:07) | InertNet, On The Webs | By: Loris Z.

I have a character participating in this week’s FACA Rumble Royale!

“Wait a second. FACA? What the…”

Fist-A-Cuffs is a blog created by Mr. Sam Hiti where different characters enters an arena to fight, the winner is decided by the visitors votes on the comments section. It’s fun! It’s Violent! It has GREAT cartoonists on it. (No, I’m not one of them)

I’m not allowed to tell which is my character, but do go and take a look, it’s an entertaining site. So go to Fistacuffs.blogspot.com, and if you have a Blogger account, please vote!

The First round will consist of 4 divisions- the North, South, East, and West! Eleven fighters will battle it out- the winner of each division will move onto the FINAL MATCH- which will be four against four! Voting ends on May 23. Check the voting rules if you want to do it (And I say again. Go for it)

(I just saw the four divisions. GREAT characters in all of them. Again. Go, look.)
