Update

5 April, 2008 (12:44) | On The Webs | By: Loris Z.

Sorry about the lack of contact, but my pc exploded. Literally, the thing went “boom!”. I don’t know when I’ll be able to fix the damned thing, but I’ll try to make it fast as I can. The good news is that the only thing I’ve been doing is draw, draw and draw. Scans soon, I hope.

In the meantime, Emails! (neurohazard(at)gmail(dot)com)

Take care,

–L

Frappr Map for January, 2008

1 January, 2008 (05:28) | On The Webs | By: Loris Z.

One of the new rules: this will be posted on the first day of each month.

Also, dear readers, I know you’re busy and time is money and all those things. But, take a minute and add your photo and/or name over there? I like to know who’s reading this, and “Anonymous Visitor - Place, Country” doesn’t help me a lot…

Thanks!

A New Year, a New Website

1 January, 2008 (05:24) | On The Webs | By: Loris Z.

(This post is an announcement. It will stay on top of the blog for a couple of days. Regular blogging is after this)

Happy new year, everyone!

In order to start the second year of this website, I’ve been thinking in the latest times to make a couple of changes:

* You’ll see the new template. I switched to one made by mr. Andreas Viklund. I’ve playing with it a little, and here are the results. I’ll see to make a change or two as we move along.

* I’ve been thinking about enabling comments on the blog entries for some time, so it’s a good chance announce it. Yes, you can now say something here. Try to be polite?

* I’ve installed a plugin for the searchbar made by mr. John Godley, that allows for a search not to be limited just by the post title. It will search pretty much everything.

* You’ll see that right next to this post there’s a box loading randomly a different fragment of my work. If you’d like me to add a specific illustration or panel, let me know.

And some other things, but that is just for me. I’ll make this post a sticky during a couple of days, to make sure no one misses it. We’ll see how it plays.

So, without further delay, here we start. Welcome, 2008. I hope to break your knees.

In Case you’re Wondering

12 September, 2007 (16:57) | On The Webs | By: Loris Z.

What the hell was that about: I managed to get my Twitter account to work with the phone I was given last week. So everything from there, messages and photos, will be filed in the Mobile Signal category.

Now, ftp, here I go. Art to upload.

Persona - Once More With Feeling, Avaible for Free

9 July, 2007 (06:24) | On The Webs, Personal, Work | By: Loris Z.

From january until april I’ve been working on a book. It compilates the best material from the first five issues of my minicomic “Persona”, that I make since 2002. The plan was to print and sell it via a print-on-demand service. Paying for a print run and handling the distribution issues was more than I can handle. Mostly because withdrawing funds from Paypal is a drag down here.

The purpose of the book was to serve as a platform of sorts. Something to show what I’m capable of, to allow things to grow from there. I knew from the very start that I wasn’t going to make a huge amount of money with it.

The printer downloaded the files for the book on may 10. Three weeks after I send them the order. I haven’t heard from them since that date. I wrote to them at east once a week from the end of may. No answer. On their website it says that they normally take two weeks to print a book. I ordered a proof copy. Shipping time for such a package to Buenos Aires arrives between two to four weeks. A letter can arrive here in less than a week. I’m talking about normal mail, no UPS, Fedex or DHL. Plain, old-school snail mail.

The thing is that it’s taking way too long. I needed this for the start of july. Timing issues and schedules… and the worst thing is: I couldn’t continue with other projects that I have because the books wasn’t out.

Since I haven’t heard a word from the POD service I’ve taken a decision.

Go to the “Shop” label, up there, and you can download the book. For free. Yes, free. It’s a ten megabytes Pdf/cbr file, with ninety pages of some of my best works from the past years, including re-drawn content and some unpublished ones.

I was going to charge two dollars for the digital file, but for some reason that didn’t “close” to me. I don’t know exactly how to express it. It just didn’t make sense to me.

However, since I have hosting to pay, and I could very well use some new books and materials, I put a Paypal donation button right next to the download link.

If you liked the book, and would like to support my work, feel free to make a donation. I would really appreciate it. I don’t have a dayjob and every penny I make comes from commissioned work and some freelance assignments, so everything that comes in does help.

Almost every person that saw the book said good things about it. Roger Langridge, creator of Fred the Clown (among other things), contributed with this quote:

“Persona: Once More With Feeling is a satisfying and often surprising
reading experience. Structurally sophisticated, its themes and
characters recur throughout with subtle variations each time, each
appearance building on the previous one to great effect. A book of
subtlety, skill, and no small amount of wit.”

Sorry for making such a long post. Thanks for your time.

Loris Z.

Time For FIST-A-CUFFS RUMBLE ROYALE!!

21 May, 2007 (21:07) | InertNet, On The Webs | By: Loris Z.

I have a character participating in this week’s FACA Rumble Royale!

“Wait a second. FACA? What the…”

Fist-A-Cuffs is a blog created by Mr. Sam Hiti where different characters enters an arena to fight, the winner is decided by the visitors votes on the comments section. It’s fun! It’s Violent! It has GREAT cartoonists on it. (No, I’m not one of them)

I’m not allowed to tell which is my character, but do go and take a look, it’s an entertaining site. So go to Fistacuffs.blogspot.com, and if you have a Blogger account, please vote!

The First round will consist of 4 divisions- the North, South, East, and West! Eleven fighters will battle it out- the winner of each division will move onto the FINAL MATCH- which will be four against four! Voting ends on May 23. Check the voting rules if you want to do it (And I say again. Go for it)

(I just saw the four divisions. GREAT characters in all of them. Again. Go, look.)
