Satoshi Kon Interview

26 April, 2007 (23:55) | Comics, Research | By: Loris Z.

Over at Tokyopop:

“It is not like I have given up completely on manga and if there is something I really wanted to create as a manga, of course I would. I have been working steadily in anime so it would not be possible to create manga on the side. To create manga takes a great effort and it is a personal work. That is a good point, in manga you can create what you want to create. But the opposite can also be said, that you can only do what you are capable of.”

‘Kryptonite’ discovered in mine

24 April, 2007 (16:16) | Science! | By: Loris Z.

Now they need a “Superman”, right?

A new mineral matching its unique chemistry - as described in the film Superman Returns - has been identified in a mine in Serbia.

According to movie and comic-book storylines, kryptonite is supposed to sap Superman’s powers whenever he is exposed to its large green crystals.

The real mineral is white and harmless, says Dr Chris Stanley, a mineralogist at London’s Natural History Museum.

“I’m afraid it’s not green and it doesn’t glow either - although it will react to ultraviolet light by fluorescing a pinkish-orange,” he told BBC News.

Robot Rights? Are Ye Kiddin’ Me?

24 April, 2007 (16:13) | Science! | By: Loris Z.

Scientists call for public debate on possible roles:

Scientists have criticised a government report which advocated a debate on granting rights to super-intelligent robots in the future as “a distraction”. They say the public should instead be consulted over the use of robots by the military and police, as carers for the elderly and as sex toys.

The BoggleIt Saga: When In Doubt, Shaft The Freelancers

24 April, 2007 (04:46) | Doom, Doom! | By: Loris Z.

Alex De Campi:

A couple months ago, my friend Christopher Thomas and I were asked to pitch by the ad agency Moodia to direct a viral commercial for an internet startup called BoggleIt. Now, Christopher and I don’t normally do commercials; pack shots of Andrex really isn’t our scene. But the agency promised us the client was “really cool, up for anything” and that the brief was mad quirky…

Go and read the full piece please.

EDIT: A few days later, Alex updated his journal, explaining how everything came to a resolution. I should have noticed it before, I know. Things that happen.
